A helpful guide along the
SMA Trail.

Plant extract, anti-depressant, analgesic, antiseptic, expectorant, anti-spasmodic, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, indigestion, mouth abscesses, insomnia, nausea, lymphatic support, thrush, diaper rash, relaxation, scars and skin conditions (bipap marks) and much more.

Lavender has many therapeutic benefits for mind, body and soul.  It is so versatile that it would be impossible to cover them all so I will stick to SMA specific uses. It is safe for use everywhere just remember -as with all oils- a little goes a long way, especially when used internally.* For more information and some very creative ideas for using Lavender visit here.

Lavender supports the respiratory tract, especially during a cold. It assists the immune system in defending against airborne viruses. It helps to ease breathing when lungs and sinuses are choked with mucus, while simultaneously providing aromatherapy to the stressed out SMA parents/caretakers that are maintaining a Q4 schedule. It is one of the most useful aromas for easing anxiety and stress.

It helps calm skin rashes and indentations from the Bipap/ braces.

As I am sure most SMA parents can attest to, sore backs are something we all deal with. I use lavender, peppermint and coconut oil as a muscle rub for myself and Reagan. It smells nice, is invigorating and feels good.

**How we use it for SMA: We rub a tiny amount on skin irritations and use it with Epsom salt during water therapy. Rub lavender on the feet, on the temples, on the neck (behind the ears and at the base of the skull) to promote relaxation/ quell anxiety and/or diffuse it in the humidifier.

*We use Bulgarian Lavender from Native American Nutritionals. You can find lavender oil just about anywhere but please buy organic.
